NYC Masonry Experience Since 2004
Since 2004, NYC Tuckpointing has provided masonry repair and maintenance solutions for homeowners, property owners, managers, co-op boards, and building professionals across New York City. We bring more than two decades of hands-on experience to every property, from deteriorating mortar and damaged brickwork to larger exterior masonry concerns.
Tuckpointing is a traditional brick-joint finishing technique that involves removing deteriorated mortar and replacing it with fresh material before creating a defined contrasting line along the joint. The result combines functional joint repair with a clean, carefully finished appearance.
For older properties, the right mortar matters. Brownstones, rowhouses, prewar buildings, and landmark-area properties can have distinctive brick, sand, colour, texture, and joint profiles that should be considered before new material is installed.
Deteriorated joints can also allow water to penetrate the wall. Over time, moisture may contribute to brick damage, staining, freeze-thaw deterioration, and corrosion around embedded metal components.
Restore deteriorated joints with carefully matched materials and a defined finished profile.
Remove failing mortar and replace it to help reduce water infiltration and further joint deterioration.
Address isolated areas of joint deterioration without automatically replacing sound surrounding material.
Repair cracked, spalled, or damaged brick before deterioration affects a larger section of the wall.
Repair deteriorated chimney joints and help protect exposed brickwork from ongoing weather exposure.
Address deteriorated joints, damaged brick, and other exterior conditions around vulnerable parapet sections.
Address corrosion and deterioration around steel lintels before cracking and displacement spread into adjacent brickwork.
Reduce moisture intrusion and help protect the building envelope from recurring water-related damage.
Repair cracks, damaged areas, and deteriorated finishes to improve exterior protection and appearance.
For buildings higher than six stories that fall under the program, exterior walls and appurtenances must generally be inspected every five years. A technical facade report must be filed with the NYC Department of Buildings through DOB NOW: Safety. The required critical examination must be performed by a Qualified Exterior Wall Inspector (QEWI).
Depending on the findings, a building may receive a Safe, Safe With a Repair and Maintenance Program (SWARMP), or Unsafe classification.
Our role is to perform the physical repair work identified within the project scope. If your property has received a FISP-related repair scope, start by reviewing the report with your QEWI or engineer. We can then assess the affected areas and provide an itemized proposal for the required work.
Work is planned around the property’s condition, access requirements, materials, and repair scope.
Older buildings often require more consideration than simply filling an open joint.
For properties undergoing facade-related repairs, we can provide appropriate project documentation for your engineer, QEWI, or property manager.
We identify visible problem areas and explain the recommended work before you approve a project.
Our service area covers Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx, and Staten Island.
We work with homeowners, landlords, property managers, co-op boards, building owners, and commercial property representatives.

A deteriorating mortar joint may look minor from the ground, but moisture can continue entering the wall long after the visible damage appears. We can assess the visible conditions and explain the available repair options.
